Wapda workers stage protest against privatisation

All Pakistan WAPDA Hydro Electric Workers Union (APWHEWU) staged a protest rally against the proposed privatisation of WAPDA and its distribution companies. The rally was taken out from Labour Hall Gadikhata and culminated at Hyderabad Press Club (HPC) on Thursday. The rally was led by Central President of the Union Abdul Latif Nizamani where a large number of people from different wings of power companies participated.
Speaking on the occasion, Nizamani said that about 1,50,000 employees were working in these companies including WAPDA. The union would not let the government to privatise the companies because it is the livelihood issue of thousands of peoples and their families, he added. "Already, the government made experience by privatising KESC which has been a failure," he said. The also demanded of the government to increase their salaries and up-grade their grades. They threatened that if the government did not give up the idea of privatising the WAPDA and distribution companies, the scope of protest would be expanded across the country.
