Effective ILS reporting critical to development: minister

Punjab Minister for Labour Raja Ashfaq Sarwar said on Friday that an effective reporting on International Labour Standards (ILS) is crucial for socio-economic uplift of country, especially after devolution of subject to provinces after 18th amendment. He stated this while addressing a training workshop organised by ILO to improve application and reporting on ILS.
More than 35 officials from Federal and Provincial Ministry, Secretaries of Labour Departments from all provinces, Employers Federation of Pakistan and Pakistan Workers Federation attended the workshop Raja said training is an important measure to streamline reporting obligation. Pakistan has ratified 36 out of 189 conventions of which 3 are denounced.
He appreciated ILO for support on meeting GSP Plus requirements by Pakistan. The training sessions focused on ILS reporting, including challenges, types of reports obligated by ILO constitution and importance of the tripartite consultations and co-ordination mechanisms.
The participants also drew a plan of action for effective ILS reporting in 2015. The ILS reporting system will also help eliminating exploitation of Labour on their rights, he added. Country Director ILO Francisco D'O Video said that the ILS lays down minimum social standards to link together trade, finance, environment, human rights and labour. He assured necessary technical assistance to Pakistan on ILS reporting. Minister also distributed certificates to successful trainers.
