Poor sewerage system and dilapidated condition of roads leading to major hospitals of the city have become a cause of headache to thousands of people visiting these institutions. Leaking waterlines and overflowing gutters are not only creating hindrances in the smooth flow of traffic but also damaging roads leading to hospitals including Dow medical Institute, Memon Hospital and Kiran Hospital.
A major portion of University Road from Karachi University Staff Colony Gate to Saphora Chowrangi has developed deep potholes owing to water gushing out from leaking pipelines, causing great inconvenience to motorists. The main University Road is damaged at several places due to presence of stagnant sewerage water. It is worth mentioning here that after many complaints, the authorities carried out a patchwork to repair the broken sections but the work was not completed.
The condition of the road once again deteriorated due to leaking water and sewerage lines, causing immense problems for the road users. Besides, green belt in the Centre of the road is damaged at several places and vehicles use these damaged parts as crossing points. Shopkeepers of Samama and its adjacent markets, located near Safari Park, complained that a filthy environment often prevail around the bridge despite the fact that it was a main shopping area which also had a number of fast food and barbecue outlets.
