Amid stringent security arrangements, provincial health department teams carried out one-day special anti-polio campaign in 97 union councils of Peshawar during which more than 700,000 children below five years of age were administered polio vaccine.
During the special campaign from 8:00am to 3:00 pm, motorcycle riding was banned and over 7000 policemen were deployed to guard the polio vaccinators.
The health department constituted nearly 4000 teams, comprising health workers, visitors and volunteers. Besides, during the drive, awareness pamphlets and booklets regarding nine childhood diseases were also distributed.
Deputy Commissioner Syed Zaheerul Islam said that the ban on motorcycles riding was imposed to avoid any untoward incident during the anti-polio drive.
The Provincial Health Department has set a target to administer polio drops to more than 700,000 children below the age of five years in 97 union councils of Peshawar district to save them from the fatal disease during the campaign, which has been achieved during a one day special vaccination drive, according to officials.
