The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has imposed fine of Rs 54,000 on outlets serving unhygienic food and issued notices to 30 on account of unsatisfactory sanitary conditions and violations of hygiene and sanitation laws. A bakery was sealed while 12 challans were issued to the food outlets for failing to comply with food safety laws during the ongoing drive against the sub-standard food.
According to an ICT spokesman, inspection teams of food and health departments conducted inspection of 152 food outlets during the last week and issued notices to 30 of them.
The inspection teams also confiscated 52 broken and filthy utensils and sent various foodstuff samples to the laboratory for analysis.
Around 39 lectures on public health education were delivered at public places. Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner, Secretariat, Waqas Rashid, during surprise checking of food outlets in Bhara Kau and Khana Pul, imposed fines amounting to Rs 34,000 on the food outlets for poor sanitary and hygiene conditions at the premises.
