Modest trading was seen on the cotton market on Monday in the absence of fresh leads, dealers said. The official spot rate was unchanged at Rs 4,750, dealers said. In the ready session, around 4,000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 4125 and Rs 5050, they said. The seed cotton rates in Sindh at Rs 1600 and Rs 2300, in Punjab prices were at Rs 1700 and Rs 2500, they said.
According to the market sources, despite the falling trend in rates, the mills and exporters kept on the sidelines due to lack of interest. Other traders said that after the Saturday's rate cut and decline of Rs 5 in polyester fibre for per kg market did not receive any visible change in the present scenario.
They also said that easier trend in the international market, is doubling uncertainties for the local businessmen. The following deals reported: 200 bales of cotton from Mirpurkhas at Rs 4125, same figure from Sanghar at Rs 4500, 400 bales from Moro at the same rate, same figure from Fort Abbas at Rs 4600-4725, same number from Faqirwali at Rs 4675, same figure from Multan at Rs 4700, same number from Basti Malook at the same rate, 600 bales from Khanewal at Rs 5000, 400 bales from Mianwali at the same rate and 600 bales from Rahim Yar Khan at Rs 5000-5050, they added.
