Senior Pakistani and Afghan commanders have started discussion on Monday on security issues pertaining to border management amid growing anti-terror co-operation. According to ISPR, a high-level delegation of the Afghan Border Police (ABP) led by Lieutenant General Shafiq Fazli, Commander ABP, visited General Headquarters where Chief of General Staff (CGS) Lieutenant General Ishfaq Nadeem Ahmad received them.
The statement says, "matters related to border security and measures to enhance the existing border co-ordination mechanism were discussed". Commander Afghan Border Police, Lieutenant General Shafiq Fazli is leading a 10-member delegation in talks with his Pakistani counterparts. The Afghan officials arrived in Pakistan on a five-day official visit on Sunday.
According to military spokesman, the visit of Afghan delegation is a sequel to the series of meetings planned on both sides of the border after the recent visits of CoAS to Afghanistan and his meetings with senior Afghan civil and military leaders. These visits are aimed at boosting military-to-military co-operation between the two armies.
Pakistan and Afghanistan share about 2,500 kilometers border and militants routinely take advantage of difficult terrains to cross the border, whenever security forces launch an operation against them. Pakistani army is presently battling the Taliban and other militant groups in North Waziristan and Afghan forces are fighting Taliban in Dangam district in eastern Kunar province bordering Pakistan.
