KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has said that the provincial government is going to hold local bodies' polls in the month of May this year.
Talking to a delegation of district Kohistan which called on him under the leadership of JUI-F MPA Maulana Asmatullah here in CM Secretariat, he assured that they are introducing such a system of local government under which all administrative and financial powers would be transferred to the local population. He said that the people would be empowered at gross-root level so they could resolve maximum problems themselves.
Other members of the delegation were included district general secretary PTI, Dr Mohammad Hanif, former ANP candidate from PK-62, Mohammad Riaz, former district Zakat chairman Malik Sher Baz, former district naib nazim, Mufti Ubaid-ur-Rehman and former BD member Malik Mustafa.
He said that besides, 30 per cent additional resources under which, the provincial government will also provide Rs 300 million to Rs 400 million more development funds to each district.
The chief minister said that the coalition government of PTI wanted to practically prove that they instead of concentrating powers in them transferring to the people. He said that the transparent policies adopted by the provincial government would help guarantee the abolition of the backwardness of far-flung districts.
Similarly, he said that the transparent mineral and environment policies will help utilise scientific means for precious resources of minerals and forests in inaccessible mountainous are to extend their benefits to the local population.
The chief minister assured the official recognition of the local Kohistani language, construction of 16-kilometer Palas Road and construction of highway on both sides from Dasu Dam to Basha Dam, construction of link roads in the affected villages, enhancement of funds for this purpose and construction of small industrial tax free zone for the affectees, provision of mark-up free loans, establishment of vocational centres and establishment of housing society for the affectees and several other rehabilitation related projects.
