The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday summoned Inspector General Islamabad Police (IG) on February 9 for not registering First Information Report (FIR) against Central Intelligence Agency's (CIA) former station chief Jonathan Banks over the deaths of civilians in US drone attacks.
A single-member bench of Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui resumed the hearing of a contempt of court petition filed by Haji Abdul Karim Khan of North Waziristan, pleading that secretariat police station has not registered an FIR against the accused despite the order passed by the said bench on June 5, 2014.
During the course of proceedings, Mirza Shahzad Akber, the counsel for Haji Abdul Karim Khan, pleaded that said bench of the IHC had ordered the Secretariat police station to register an FIR against Banks over deaths of civilians in US drone attacks, however, the FIR has not been registered despite a lapse of six months. He pleaded that contempt of court proceedings must be initiated against the concerned police officer for not complying with the court's orders. He further pleaded the court to direct the Islamabad police to register the FIR without any further delay.
