KP Assembly asks EU, OIC for legislation on blasphemy

07 Feb, 2015

The provincial assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday passed a unanimous resolution demanding the world community, particularly the European Union and the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC), for making legislation on punishment for blasphemy of all Holy Prophets (PBUH). The jointly drafted resolution of opposition and treasury benches was read out by Mufti Said Janan of JUI-F in the house.
The resolution said the provincial assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa strongly condemned the publication of blasphemous caricatures of the last Holy Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) in French newspapers. The KP provincial assembly not only deem the publication of blasphemous caricatures in the pretext of the freedom of press and expression as a conspiracy against all religions, rather consider it a deep-rooted conspiracy against all civilisations and declared it tantamount to a deliberate attempt to creating of anarchy among all religions and paving way for human genocide and promotion of terrorism.
The assembly, he said, also strongly condemned this deliberate conspiracy, which instead of honouring the faith of all religions has adopted the path of sacrilege, which could not be allowed in any circumstances. It said France was allowing defamation of Islam in the garb of the freedom of press and promoting terrorism and confrontation between Islam and Western civilisation. It said that the assembly condemns terrorism in any form as Islam have no space for violence and no one could be permitted for misinterpretation of the universal message. The house said that blasphemy was such a crime, which could not be forgiven at all, saying blasphemous caricatures had hurt the sentiments of the entire Muslim world. Speaker Asad Qaiser put the resolution to vote and the house adopted it unanimously.
