People suffer as traffic jams become daily affair in Sialkot

07 Feb, 2015

The Sialkot Traffic Police have badly failed to control traffic in the city as result there is a total traffic chaos in Sialkot due to which road accidents and traffic jams had become a daily routine. Local traffic police despite controlling the traffic was busy in money making and had provided a free hand to bus and wagon drivers for picking passengers.
The illegal parking stands, wrong parking of private vehicles, rickshaws and wagons on busy roads was creating hurdles in smooth flow of traffic on busiest roads in the city. Most of the educational institutions had been established on most busy roads including Paris Road, Kutchehry Road, Anwar Club Road and Abbot Road and established parking stands on roadside which are creating serious traffic problems during peak hours not only for the general public but also ambulances and Rescue-1122.
It is due to the lack of management by the traffic police that roads remain blocked in the presence of police drivers of passenger wagons plying in the city remained busy in pick and drop in middle of the roads. It had been observed that most of the policemen deputed for controlling and channelling the traffic found busy on mobile phones, eating and smoking despite of discharging duties. The Sialkot police had bowed the knees in front of transporters as a result of which coaches, buses and wagons plying on different routes blocked roads just for picking or dropping passengers in peak hours.
It was very unfortunate that traffic jams on Anwar Club road, Kutchehry road, Pul Aik area, Abbot road, Paris road, Lorry Adda and Kashmir road where traffic remains stuck up for a long time during peak hours but there is no policeman to handle the situation.
There are many so-called "one ways" exist in the city but it is very unfortunate that police had failed to implement one-way traffic system and often itself violating one-way traffic rules while in most parts of the city traffic signals had been installed of which most of them are out of order as a result of which people are facing hardships. The violation of traffic rules hit the highest point on these traffic signals but there is no policeman to check the menace of violence and highhandedness of drivers.
It has also been witnessed that a large number of underage children are plying the "Chand Garis" without license in the city while handicapped and physically unfit persons were also plying rickshaws but police never make an effort to check this violation. It has also been observed that many old and unfit passenger wagons are being plying on different routes of which most of the wagons are without doors and window glasses but nobody dares to check this malpractice of the concerned transporters.
To make sure the smooth flow of traffic, traffic wardens had been deputed on various roads but no improvement is visible so far and under the prevailing situation traffic wardens and traffic police should be deputed at all road crossings and junctions with strict instructions to efficiently control traffic for avoiding traffic jams in the city and the deployment of permanent traffic policemen is direly needed at all city roads to provide relief to the general public of the city.
The Sialkot Traffic Police should take immediate step for checking license, underage and handicapped drivers for ensuring the supremacy of traffic law in the city. Socio-political circles have appealed to high-ups of traffic police to take immediate steps for removing illegal rickshaw stands from Chowk Allama Iqbal, Lorry Adda, Kashmir road and special attention should also be focused on clearing the Anwar Club road from illegal parking of college wagons for ensuring smooth flow of traffic.
