'Culture, cuisines festival' begins today

The Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) to hold a two-day event to showcase the cultural and folk performances and traditional cuisines for enjoyment of the families at Peshawar Garrison Club on Saturday. The event titled, 'Culture and cuisines festival', is aimed at promoting the soft image of the province. It would provide a changed scene to the people after the recent Army Public School tragedy, said a press release issued by TCKP.
There will be a total of 30 stalls in the festival and of them 15 will be reserved for the items showcasing cultural and national heritage and traditions through handicrafts, modern and cultural dresses, metal and clay works etc. The rest of 15 stalls would offer cuisines from all the districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that include painda or suhbat, rice, Nowshera fish, Chapali Kabab, Peshawari Naan, Kabuli Pulao, Seekh Kabab, lamb Sajji etc.
Traditional cuisines are strongly influenced by the rich cultural surroundings of the region and the food blends in the mouth-watering flavours of cooking. The roots of the traditional food stuff can be traced to the cookery styles used in Afghanistan and Iran. Chitrali, Kalash dances, Khattak, Mahsud, Waziri and Afghani attan are also part of the two-day festival.
