Traffic laws were being openly violated in the city and yet those flouting rules and regulations go unpunished. On the one hand, drivers of buses, mini buses, rickshaws, motorcycles, trucks have developed a habit of going in the opposite direction and, on the other, violations of traffic lights and use of pressure horns have become a matter of routine.
Although all these major traffic violations have already assumed an alarming proportion, the traffic police seemed least interested in bringing an end to such violations. It has been often observed that traffic constables who despite remaining present on different roads and streets make no effort to apprehend drivers of vehicles who have developed the habit of going wrong side, jumping red signals. Even those who indulge in rash and negligent driving are never taken to task by traffic constables.
Ironically, one could even spot that educated people also openly violate traffic rules and regulations, thereby creating traffic chaos on busy traffic intersections. Moreover, drivers of buses, mini buses and coaches have also developed the habit of picking up and dropping passengers in the middle of roads, exposing commuters to accidents. Meanwhile, drivers of trucks, buses, mini buses and other heavy vehicles have been frequently using pressure horns, creating noise pollution in the metropolis.
