The Karachi Port handled 136,689 tonnes of cargo comprising 119,104 tonnes of import cargo and 17,585 tonnes of export cargo including 3,879 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 119,104 tonnes comprised of 35,751 tonnes of containerised cargo; 16,894 tonnes of general cargo; 2,199 tonnes of soyabean meal and 64,260 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 17,585 tonnes comprised of 2,198 tonnes of containerised cargo and 56 tonnes of general cargo; 12,756 tonnes of bulk cargo: 5,197 tonnes of rice and 7,559 tonnes of talcum powder and 2,575 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 3,879 containers comprising of 3,002 containers import and 877 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 655 of 20's and 1,037 of 40's loaded while 129 of 20's and 72 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 51 of 20's and 37 of 40's loaded containers while 196 of 20's and 278 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were four ships namely ACX Crystal, UAFL Zanzibar, M Spirit and Mathawee Naree carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were four vessels viz. YM Enlightenment, Commodore, Berganger and EL Zorro carrying containers and oil tankers respectively currently at the berths. There were three ships namely CSC Zhong Hai, EL Gurdabia and EL Zorro carrying containers and oil tankers respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while six ships namely YM Enlightenment, Commodore, PAC Aries, Berganger, BW Zambesi and EL Zorro carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively are expected to sail on Thursday.
There were six vessel viz. Hyundai Confidence, Wan Hai-516, Ocean Sunrise, Sea Young, SC Zhu Hai and Klima carrying containers, mogas, oil tankers and cement respectively due to arrive on Wednesday, while another vessel viz. APL Seattle carrying containers is due to arrive on Thursday.
