Friday was last date for filing nomination papers for Senate elections to be held on March 5. The nomination papers are being received at Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Islamabad and the provincial offices of the commission. Scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on Monday and Tuesday. Appeals can be filed against rejection of nominations on March 20 and 21. Appeals will be disposed of on 23 and 24 and final list of candidates will be issued on February 25.
According to an official of ECP, those who filed nomination papers in Islamabad are: Imran Ashraf and Nargis Faiz Malik of Pakistan People's Party, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Raheela Magsi, Muhammad Ashrag Gujar, and Nargis Nasir of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Shumaila, Bisma Asif and Advocate Zulfiqar of MQM.
As many as 43 candidates from FATA submitted their nomination papers. Those includes Molana Abdul Malik Wazir, Saeed Anwar, Malak Aslam Khan, Abdul Shahid, Abdul Raziq, Sajjad Hussain, Munir Khan Orakzai, Haji Bismillah, Muhammad Asghar, Shah Khalid, Shah Faisal, Hafiz Rashid Ahmed, Engr. Tahir Iqbal, Malak Noor Akhbar, Aurangzeb Khan, Nazir Khan, Muhammad Din, Haji Khan, Momin Khan, Taj Muhammad Afridi, Syed Nawab, Shah Muhammad, Akhunzada Chattan, Abdul Qadir, Sanaullah Zehri, Habib Malak, Saif ur Rehman, Abdul Malik Qadir, Idress Khan, Zar Khan Safi, Baz Gul, Rahat Yousaf, Aurangzeb Khan, Pir Agil Shah, Muhammad Tayyab, Malak Rashid Ahmed, Malak Nadir Khan, Qismat Khan, Muhammad Kamran, Syed Muhammad Hussain, Fazal Abbas, Mumtaz Khan and Ainud din Shakir.
