Senate seats 33 file nomination papers from KP

As many as 33 candidates filed nomination papers for the Senate elections scheduled on March 5, from the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). According to KP Election Commission, 17 candidates filed their nomination papers on general seats, including Waqar Ahmed Khan, Ammar Ahmed Khan (Independent), Ataur Rehman (JUI-F), Haji Mohammad Adeel, Liaqat Tarakai (Awami Jamhoori Ittehad), Sirajul Haq and Professor Ibrahim Khan (JI), Lieutenant General (Retd) Salahuddin Tirmizi (PML-N), Abdul Malik, and Noor Alam Khanzada Khan (PPP), Fazal Muhammad, Shibli Faraz , Salman Hameed Afridi and Muhammad Anwar Burki (PTI).
Seven women candidates have filed their nomination papers for reserved women seats including Fauzia Fakhruzzman, Sitara Ayaz (Independent), Bibi Safia and Samina Abid (PTI), Rabia Basri, Shazia Tehmas and Shaheen (PPP). For technocrat seats, Abdul Latif Yousafzai and Syed Sabli Faraz (PTI), Abdul Malack, Muhammad Hamyaun Khan (PPP), Noman Wazir (PTI), Afrasiab Khan Khattak (ANP), Adnan, Javed Abbasi (PML-N) filed their nomination papers.
For minorities' seats, James Iqbal, John William, Ravi Kumar and Amar Jeet filed their nomination papers with the Provincial Election Commissioner, Musarat Shah, who is the returning officer for the Senate elections from KP. The scrutiny process will be commenced from February 16-17 and appeals against acceptance and rejections of nomination papers would be heard from February 20-21. The candidates may withdraw their papers by February 25 while the polling would be held on March 5, 2015.
