Government taking steps to rehabilitate IDPs: KP Governor

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan has said to enhance the repute and positive image of Federal Administered Tribal Areas, the incumbent government has been taking concrete steps to ensure the implementation of comprehensive policy for the early rehabilitation and resettlement of IDPs in order to foster the development of this marginalized region.
"Resettlement of internally displaced persons to their homes with dignity and honour is the top most priority of the Government of Pakistan and as Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, I am personally looking after the arrangements and returning process of the IDPs", Sardar Mahtab Ahmed Khan told a delegation of World Food Program (WFP) led by Peter Scott Bowdon here at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House on Thursday.
He said the temporary displacement of more than a million people from different parts of Fata was a big responsibility but ensuring their repatriation and rehabilitation was a challenge of bigger magnitude and this time our government is starting the process in more organized manner then past.
He further said that it was his desire to complete the resettlement of IDPs in 2015 whereas keeping in mind the ground realties, tribal people and elders should realise their responsibilities and must join hands with the government to make this possible.
He informed the delegation that Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was very anxious about return program of the internally displaced persons and is taking deep interest to expedite the process.
The Governor told delegation that Pakistan is fighting the war against terror which is an international Problem and being front line state against terrorism it is international obligation to help Pakistan to resolve the resettlement issue. The resolve carried out in Pakistani people today exemplary was never before and we are moving in right direction, he added.
He further told that resettlement of IDPs is responsibility of the state and we are having constant meeting and discussions with tribal elders and we expect greater support from international community in this regard. He also appreciated the role of World Food Origination (WFO) which it is playing for provision of food and other facilities to the IDPs. Governor has also directed the officers concerned to take measures for greater co-operation with (WFO) and other international organisations to ensure the provision of basic amenities and facilities to the IDPs and to foster the work opportunities and development process.
