Young doctors' strike entered third day on Wednesday at Out-Patient Departments (OPDs) of Nishtar Hospital, Civil Hospital and all the public sector hospitals on the appeal made by Young Doctors Association (YDA) here against the brutal killing of senior surgeon assistant professor of neurosurgery Dr Samiullah Chugtai in Sahiwal.
Talking to media, YDA president Dr Kabir said the doctors observed strike at Multan Nishtar Hospital and other public sector hospitals in protest against killing of doctor. He said Dr Samiullah was going to his house in Sahiwal on Sunday when unidentified assailants shot him dead. He regretted that the police did not take the matter seriously and failed to provide security to the slain surgeon. Dr Kabir said the YDA also observed strike across the province against police failure in providing security to doctors. He said the YDA would continue strike for indefinite period until evolving a security mechanism for doctors at extensive level. He said the YDA is demanding enactment of policy one bed, one patient and one attendant at the hospitals and doctors would continue strike until the promulgation of this policy in all public sector hospitals in Punjab.
