Fifth Donors Co-ordination meeting held here recently. Executive Director, National Vocational & Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) Muhammad Imtiaz Tajwar while presiding over the meeting welcomed all donors, and said that donors were basically development partners with NAVTTC and Government of Pakistan.
He also appreciated the services rendered by all the development partners for Technical & Vocational Education and Training (TVET) development. The targets set by the NAVTTC and Government of Pakistan for TVET development can only be achieved through joint efforts with development partners.
NAVTTC is an apex body at the Federal level in Pakistan, mainly responsible for policy formulation, regulation, co-ordination, and facilitation of TVET sector across the country. The NAVTTC is spearheading the TVET sector reform across the country through the TVET Reform Support Programme, which is funded by the European Union, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Germany and the Royal Embassy of Norway and is implemented by the GIZ. The main objective of the programme is to improve access, equality, quality and relevance of the TVET system in Pakistan through a paradigm shift from content-based to competency-based training with active involvement of the private sector.
In 2011, NAVTTC formed a donors co-ordination forum with the aim to improve co-ordination ensure harmonisation and develop synergies among the Development Partners (DPs) supporting the TVET Sector in Pakistan, It provides a platform for sharing experiences, building on each other's strengths and to discuss issues and strategies to move forward.
Donor co-ordination meetings have provided the basis for development partners to develop synergies of their activities and to contribute to aid effectiveness. Overview of TVET reforms was presented by NAVTTC. NAVTTC stressed the need for resolving duplications with focus on reform-based approach and linkage of donor interventions in NAVTTC's NSIS website.
The forum was also briefed about development of National TVET Policy and National Vocational Qualifications Framework (NVQF). The donors who attended the meeting were from European Union, Germany, European Commission, Norway, Italy, ILO, British Council, World Bank and GIZ.-PR
