Federal Minister for Finance Senator Ishaq Dar was apprised during a briefing about its key responsibility, the BISP had disbursed an amount of Rs 43 billion among 4.83 million beneficiaries (families) in the first two quarters of the FY 2014-15. The BISP aimed at extending its outreach to over five million beneficiaries by the close of current financial year, BISP Secretary Shabbir Ahmed said.
After briefing by its Secretary Shabbir Ahmed on the functions and performance of BISP at the Finance Ministry on Thursday evening, the Minister went on to emphasise that financial help, provision of vocational training or healthcare facilities, whatever the form of assistance, the aim of BISP should be to serve the people whole heartedly and ensure complete transparency in financial matters as funds at the disposal of BISP were an "Amanat" of the people.
The Minister on this occasion emphasised that overlapping of welfare schemes in various BISP programmes or those of other such organisations, federal or provincial, should be avoided. The Minister directed the BISP officials to revamp their welfare schemes and promote integration with concerned provincial departments. Concluding his address, the Minister called upon officials of BISP to work dedicatedly reaching out to the poorest segments of the population throughout the country, extending them all possible support to gain economic footing.-PR
