EBM held: NAB decides to file two references

The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was held under the chairmanship of Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman NAB at NAB Headquarter here on Monday. The following decisions were made during the meeting.
The EBM decided to file two references. In the first reference approved against Tariq Awan, ex-secretary Workers Welfare Board, Government of KP, Abdul Waheed, ex-project manager WWB, Muhammad Asghar Awan, contractor, Arslan Qureshi, contractor, Manzoor Ahmad Ghuri, contractor and Naeem Rabani, contractor in illegal award of nine contracts for illegal procurement of equipments like generators, vacuum cleaners, first aid boxes, fans, fibre glass rooms, interactive boards, stationary, carpets, uniforms, sports items etc through fake and non-registered firms at highly exorbitant rates worth Rs 517, 466,475 approximately and causing loss to national exchequer on accounts of short and substandard supply of equipment for Workers Welfare Board, KP.
In second reference approved against Professor Dr Abdur Rahim Khan, ex-chairman Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Dera Ismail Khan, Muhammad Atlas Khan, ex-controller BISE, Amanullah Khan, ex-acting controller BISE and Wajeehuddin Ahmad, ex-assistant controller, BISE, Dera Ismail Khan in gross violation of rules and regulations in connivance with each other received applications from students after due date with normal fees and in some cases even without any fee.
The answer sheets were illegally rechecked, fraudulently remarked, award lists were changed/replaced and tampered by using fluid and overwriting in the result sheets of both SSC and HSSC Annual/re-totalling results by misusing their authority and thus extending illegal benefit to the non-deserving students.
The illegal and corrupt practices of the accused persons caused grave social injustice by awarding illegal marks to the non-deserving students who in turn deprived the deserving students of their due rights. In this case, the accused caused a loss of Rs 29, 45, 000 to national exchequer. The EBM decided to close one inquiry against Najaff Abbas Siyal, ex-land acquisition collector (LAC), Lahore Development Authority (LDA).
The Executive Board also decided to close a complaint verification against Allah Wasaya Awan, ex-DG, Information Technology, Training & Research regarding accumulation of assets beyond known legal sources of income due to lack of incriminating evidence.
At the end, Chairman NAB said the Bureau is determined to eradicate corruption throughout the country and is making all-out efforts that all the public and private institutions serve the people on merit, without temptation of "bribe or greed" and help in promotion of merit. He said NAB is committed to eliminate corruption and corrupt practices through fair and transparent investigations and vigorous prosecution in courts.-PR
