K-Electric''s plea: hearing adjourned for two weeks

The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted two weeks to the Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) to submit a reply in a matter relating to payment of outstanding dues by Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) to K-Electric Limited. K-Electric Limited has challenged a Sindh High Court division bench''s verdict making the KWSB through its Managing Director, Federation of Pakistan through Secretaries Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Water & Power, Province of Sindh through Secretary Local Government and City District Government Karachi through its Administrator, respondents.
The apex court has granted K-Electric leave to appeal against Sindh High Court (SHC) verdict and summoned sectaries Ministry of Finance, Water and Power with Attorney General for Pakistan to explain whether the federal or provincial governments should pay Rs 28.74 billion outstanding dues of the KWSB. On Wednesday, appearing on court''s notice before a three-member bench of the Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, the AGP submitted that K-Electric Limited has not been paying dues of 650 MW to Wapda, saying that the federation would submit all the facts of the current case before the court in two weeks. Accepting the AGP''s plea, the bench adjourned the hearing of case for two weeks.
