'PPP to retain Senate chairman's slot'

07 Mar, 2015

President of Pakistan People's Party Central Punjab Manzoor Wattoo hopes to retain offices of chairman and deputy chairman Senate until the next elections. Talking to newsmen on Friday, he said "The PPP has emerged as the single largest party in the Senate with the support of the Awami National Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Pakistan Muslim League, Jamiat Ulema Islam-F, National Assembly members from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and independents. The PPP will secure the two top slots in the Senate."
He criticised the promulgation of the Presidential Ordinance ahead of the Senate elections to deprive the FATA members from taking part in the elections. He said former President Asif Zardari had rightly advised the government to avoid the introduction of the 22nd amendment in a short span of time. Wattoo thanked the PML-Q leadership for supporting the PPP candidate in the Punjab Assembly. He also offered party tickets to the dissidents of PML-N in case they would face disciplinary action to vote for the PPP candidate in the elections.
