An emergency meeting of industrialists was held at Site Association of Industry (SAI) office to chalk out a strategy to deal with low gas supply issue. The meeting decided to stage protests and sit-in against persisting low gas pressure which halted industrial wheel.
Industrialists expressed their dismay over miserably low gas pressure due to which production had been seriously hampered. They expressed voiced concern on frequent drop of gas pressure in Site by the SSGC. The production in Site industrial area is badly suffered due to low gas pressure. Site being the 38 percent revenue earning estate of Pakistan will be forced of closure, likely to affect more than 500,000 labours. They said that several captive power generating units also stopped operating because of the irregular gas supply to the industrial area.
While talking to Business Recorder, President SAI Muhammad Jawed Bilwani expressed that industry is already on ICU and nothing is happening in the favour of industry. Industrialists are repeatedly demanding for proper gas supply for the ailing industry, he added.
He urged the government to take stock of the depressing situation and adopt measures immediately to save the industry. He further said that the industry already facing serious crises and now gas supply suspension as well as low gas pressure put the industry at the verge of closure. He expressed hope that the government would give serious consideration to the gas shortage issue.
