Universities should focus on encouraging its youth towards entrepreneurship because unemployed youth is a recipe for disaster. This was stated by Professor Dr Parvaiz Ahmed Pathan, Dean Faculty of Social sciences, SU while addressing the concluding ceremony of a four-day training workshop organized by the University of Sindh on "essentials of entrepreneurship" at Liaquat University Jamshoro.
The training workshop was sponsored by Higher Education Commission & Rotary Club International Hyderabad Chapter. A number of 34 officers and faculty members of all the three varsities including Sindh University, Mehran Engineering University & Liaquat Medical University Jamshoro. Dr Parvaiz Ahmed Pathan said that the entrepreneurship offered the best option to Pakistan for engaging its youth in productive activities and to create more jobs.
He assured that Sindh University is ready to cooperate with the government for entrepreneurship development in the country. He proposed to form a Young Entrepreneurs Forum (YEF) at IBA of SU to focus on encouraging the youth towards entrepreneurship. He said YEF should be given task to organise workshops, trainings and mentorship programmes for youth development.
Dr Imamuddin Khoso, Director IBA Sindh University said that entrepreneurship had been identified as one of the most important vehicles for economic wellbeing of individuals and communities and added that the University was doing well to develop an entrepreneurial eco-system in the country.
He said: Pakistan has great potential for entrepreneurship and added he wanted to see international community to put Pakistani companies on a global stage by announcing the ranking of the 100 fastest growing companies of the country. "We should show the world that Pakistan is open to business and help change its negative perception and the universities can play a positive role in this regard in term of supporting the government in skilled manpower," he said.
He was hopeful that Pakistani companies should get global visibility, attract new customers, investors and talent from all over the world and become part of a prestigious group of successful entrepreneurs. "Universities are ready to help the companies in providing trained and skilled youth," Dr Khoso said. On the occasion, 34 officers & faculty members were given training while the focal person of the workshop was Sheeraz Shaikh. In the end, the certificates were distributed among the participants.
