National Assembly Standing Committee on Cabinet has directed Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to facilitate the public by charging lowest rate and controlling the wrong incoming calls. The committee also directed the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) to resolve the complaints regarding over billing and other issues.
The committee met with Rana Muhammad Hayat Khan in the chair at Parliament House here on Wednesday. MNAs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Syed Javed Ali Shah, Parveen Masood Bhatti, Nighat Parveen Mir, Shahnaz Saleem, Seema Mohiuddin Jameeli, Farhana Qamar, Maryum Aurangzeb, Pir Shafqat Hussain Jilani, Moulvi Agha Muhammd, S A Iqbal Qadri along with Secretary Cabinet Division, Chairman PTA, Managing Director Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal, as well as senior officers of Nepra and Ogra attended the meeting. The PTA chairman also presented latest report on illegal exchanges working in the country and details of court case during briefing to the committee.
The committee directed the PTA chairman to enhance the efficiency of the organisation and provide maximum facilities to the consumers. The committee also directed the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) to ensure the availability of oil and adopt advance strategy for supply of petrol and diesel to the people so that common man may not suffer.
The committee also discussed the inquiry report regarding mismanagement in PWP-1 and PWP-II. The members of the committee expressed displeasure over the report and directed Cabinet Division to submit third party audit report through the office of Auditor General within 15 days. The official of Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal briefed the committee about provision of medical and financial assistance to the poor. The committee also discussed the Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (Amendment) Bill, 2013 moved by S A Iqbal Qadri of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). However after discussion, the chairman deferred the Bill till the next meeting.
The committee also directed the chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) to prepare a comprehensive report regarding recovery of auction of commercial and residential plots of Islamabad and fix responsibility on those officers who were involved in the malpractice.
