Nawaz Sharif's mother Shamim Akhtar has vowed that she will go behind the bars with her son and Maryam Nawaz if they are detained on reaching Lahore on Friday evening.
"They are coming home and I would not let them go to jail. If they will be sent to jail, then I will also go with them," said Sharif’s mother in a video message. Akhtar further said that her son is returning to his home country, the country that helped him prosper.
She added that she would not let her son Nawaz, granddaughter Maryam and Captain (retired) Safdar go to jail. “Unjust decision has been made against my son Nawaz, Maryam and Safdar,” she said. She further assured, she has faith that all three are innocent and that Allah will protect them.
Akhtar added that her children are being punished for their loyalty towards the nation.
Sharif and his daughter are all set to land in Lahore from London today. All the arrangements to shift them to Adiala jail through helicopter have been completed. Security has been tightened in Lahore, while the motorway and national highway police officials have been directed to shut all main entry and exit routes.
Nawaz has been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment and his daughter Maryam Nawaz was sentenced to seven years of jail along with his son-in-law Captain (retired) Safdar for one year. The accountability court has also charged a fine of eight million pounds to Sharif and two million pounds to his daughter for the Avenfield reference case.
