Shops in Empress Mall: ballot held

The balloting of shops in the Empress Mall, a commercial project of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), was conducted here on Friday. The project is being constructed in place of Old Shahabuddin Market in Saddar area. Addressing on the occasion, KMC Administrator Saqib Ahmed Soomro said that the project is being constructed in the heart of Karachi.
Its completion will solve the vehicle parking problems in Saddar area besides promoting the trade and commercial activities in the city, he said.
KMC has expedited its construction works and this project will be completed in least possible time, he added. The Administrator said this project was delayed in the past however, following the directive of Sindh Local Government Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon work on it resumed speedily.
In the first phase, balloting of shops was held and shops are being allotted to 277 applicants who succeeded in the draw.
He advised the allottees that they should now submit the remaining amount as soon as possible which will be spent on the construction works of this project so that they could be given ownership rights at the earliest.
He said the applications for the second phase will be called soon whereas work on the settlement of affectees of old Shahabuddin Market will also begin soon. He said the development work will be accelerated further to finish it as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the draw for the shops of Empress Mall was held in the Civic Centre in presence of the applicants.
