Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Punjab has condemned the death of a young shopkeeper in custody of the Punjab Police in Lahore and also the police torture of Sialkot party activist Baber who was severely injured. Party Punjab President Ejaz Chaudhry has accused the Chief Minister of manipulating the police, claiming that he had manipulated the Punjab Police for his personal and political gains.
"It is there to just serve the Sharif family who has ruined state institutions by appointing their loyalists rather than qualified people on merit. Politicisation of the police will not end as long as the status quo remains in power," he added. Secretary General Yasmin Rashid too was critical of the police, claiming that the Punjab Police could kill a young boy in a broad-day light in the provincial metropolitan. "The situation in the far off areas of the Punjab could be worse. The ruling class will never depoliticise the police since this will end their influence," she added.
Information Secretary Andleeb Abbas said nothing worse could happen than the Punjab Police callously beating up visually impaired protesters. She said the death of the poor shopkeeper was another example of 'Thana' culture and Shahbaz Sharif was protecting that culture in the Punjab.
