The Karachi Port handled 163,386 tonnes of cargo comprising 129,787 tonnes of import cargo and 33,599 tonnes of export cargo including 8,571 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 129,787 tonnes comprised of 70,249 tonnes of containerised cargo; 883 tonnes of general cargo; 14,106 tonnes of bulk cargo: 9,650 tonnes of coal; 4,456 tonnes of DAP and 44,549 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 33,599 tonnes comprised of 23,584 tonnes of containerised cargo; 267 tonnes of general cargo; 7,173 tonnes of bulk cargo; 3,476 tonnes of cement; 2,650 tonnes of talcum powder; 1,047 tonnes of stone and 2,575 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 8,571 containers comprising of 5,184 containers import and 3,387 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 1,562 of 20's and 1,792 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 19 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 545 of 20's and 470 of 40's loaded containers while 678 of 20's and 612 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were four ships namely Commodore, Sima Prestige, Ocean Star-1 and Ocean Skipper carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were seven vessels viz. RHL Aqua, Cosco Osaka, Cosco Kawasaki, MT Quetta, Gema, IVS Naruo and Da Zi Yun carrying containers, oil tankers, coal and general cargo respectively currently at the berths. There were four ships namely OOCL California, Golden Denise, Alam Madu and Da Zi Yun carrying containers, oil tanker, cement and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Friday, while three ships namely Cosco Osaka, Cosco Kawasaki and Stove Trader carrying containers and talcum powder respectively are expected to sail on Saturday.
There was one vessel viz. Sudair carrying containers due to arrive on Friday, while two vessels viz. Commodore and Mid Falcon carrying containers and oil tanker respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.
