Senior leadership of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) is likely to suspend the party membership of Dr Fehmida Mirza and her son Hasnain Mirza with resignations from the assemblies, it is learnt. According to sources, senior party members held a meeting with PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari in Islamabad before his departure for Karachi.
They said senior members were taken aback over the statements of former Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza, who resorted to "character assassination" of party's Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari. The sources said the party's senior leaders were of the view to immediately suspend the party membership of Zulfiqar Miraz's wife Dr Fehmida Mirza and his son Hasnain Mirza and to demand their resignations from the assemblies. Dr Fehmida Mirza is member of the National Assembly while their son is member of Sindh Assembly. When contacted, PPP spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said that such a demand has not been made so far. However, he said that senior party leaders met PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari in Islamabad on Thursday before he left for Karachi.
