Law, Excise and Taxation and Finance Provincial Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman has claimed that his government is utilising all available resources to provide better healthcare services.
His claim came to delegations of doctors at his home on Wednesday where he claimed that maximum resources would continue to be provided for the provision of modern health facilities to the common man and that his government had provided extra Rs 2 billion for the control of communicable diseases whereas, the government had also increased 19.8 percent of the budget for the current spending on the health sector.
He also claimed that the government had reserved Rs 2 billion to achieve the millennium development goals and that an additional grant would be provided to make a high-tech Punjab institute of neurosciences operational, whereas, Rs 650 million is being spent in the current fiscal year and emergency ward of the INS will shortly be made operational. "Up to 20 percent of birth deliveries are attended by skilled birth attendant and this ratio will increase by more than 90 percent by 2015. The contraceptive prevalence rate is 36 percent that will increase upto 55 percent by 2015 [MDGs Target].
