07 May, 2015

A death row convict was executed in Kot Lakhpat jail here on Wednesday morning. Zulfiqar, a resident of Shakargarh, was convicted of double murder which he had committed in 1998. The convict had killed two men Mehrab and Rafaq in Barakahu area of Islamabad during a robbery attempt. His body was handed over to family after the doctor verified his death following the hanging.
The prisoner was executed after Lahore High Court, Supreme Court of Pakistan and president had rejected his clemency appeals. Pakistan lifted a moratorium on capital punishment after a deadly militant raid on Peshawar's army run school which saw almost 150 people killed, mostly children on December 14 last year.
