It's true that most cybercriminals remain focused on Windows machines, but newer trojans like Flashback and Browlock show that ever more hackers are setting their sights on Macs, which used to be of little interest to criminals because they were so uncommon. Apple's popularity has changed that. Any Mac owner interested in extra protection from viruses and malware will be happy to know that there are good virus scanner programmes out there for free.
Germany's AV Test Institute tested 10 commercial and freeware malware protection programmes for Mac's OS X Yosemite system in February and March.
Two free applications performed the best: Avira Free Antivirus for Mac (version 2.0.8.104) and Avast Free Mac Security (version 10.7 or 43713).
