Karachi-Electric in collaboration with FIA and other law-enforcement agencies has launched a campaign, called `Operation Burq', against defaulters and those indulging in any form of power-theft in the city, said a K-E press release issued on Monday. The power utility has asked its defaulting consumers to clear their outstanding bills before May 15.
According to the press release, no legal action will be taken against those power thieves who would voluntarily report the matter concerning any discrepancy with their meters to the concerned Integrated Business Centres or to its Response Centre on 118. However, action will be taken against power thieves and defaulters after May 15, the press release said, adding that power-theft is a non-bailable offence and offenders involved in such acts will face severe penalties, including three years imprisonment, a fine of Rs 10 million and property confiscation under Inland Revenue Act.
