LSE index gains 36.74 points

The LSE-25 index has bettered by 36.74 points to 5510.28 points against 5473.54 points, with the transaction volume marginally increasing to 915,000 shares compared with the day earlier volume of 833,300 shares. The market on Tuesday resumed trading positively and greatly gained following buyers' interest in the Shifa Intl Hospital, OGDC, Byco Petroleum, Dewan Farooq Motors, Pak Elektron, PIAC, Maple Leaf Cement, Dewan Cement, Fauji Fertilizer and K-Electric.
Yet, some companies suffering following profit-taking were the Engro Corporation, Engro Fertiliser, Fauji Fertiliser Bin Qasim, Habib Bank, Faysal Bank, Bank of Punjab, Hascol Petroleum, Fauji Cement, Lafarge Pakistan Cement and Dewan Salman Fibre. The declining stocks were slightly more than gainers. Of 75 active issues, 13 companies posted gains, 14 suffered declines and 48 stayed glued to their previous closing.
Among gainers were the Shifa Intl Hospital, Rs 5.00, OGDC, Rs 1.37 and Dewan Farooq Motors and Pak Elektron, 62-paisa and 48-paisa. In the minus column, the Engro Corporation lost Rs 4.69, the Habib Bank declined by Rs 2.58 while the Hascol Petroleum and the Engro Fertilizer were down by 89-paisa and 80-paisa. The Bank of Punjab was the market leader whose 536,500 shares changed hands followed by the Byco Petroleum with 85,000 shares.
