Targeted killings in Karachi

14 May, 2015

This refers to a Business Recorder news item "Monster of targeted killings rears its head again". It was on Saturday that a senior police officer was killed along with his driver in what appears to be a sectarian attack in Karachi. Zulfiqar Zaidi, Deputy Superintendent of Police, was sitting at a hotel when he was attacked by unknown assailants in Shah Faisal Colony.
Earlier last week, DSP Fateh Mohammed was gunned down in an ambush in Malir area of the city. There are many other killings that appear to be results of targeted operations. The ongoing Karachi operation had brought about a qualitative change in the city of the teeming millions. The recent killings are clearly aimed at squandering away the gains made by the Karachi operation. The authorities concerned are required to speed up their efforts without any further loss of time because the situation brooks no complacency.
