Applying tags to photos makes searching easier

18 May, 2015

If you have your digital photos in a lot of different folders on a Windows computer, it can be difficult to quickly find a particular person, subject or place because you can't look at all the photos at once. The hard work is taken out of searching if you tag your photos with keywords, according to Germany's Photographic Industry Association. A picture can then be easily found by searching for the tag.
You don't have to be in an image editing programme to tag a photo, you can also do it via an Explorer window on a Windows machine. Browse to the folder containing the photo and select it. Information about the photo will appear in the bottom of the Explorer window.
Click in the box "Tags: Add a tag" and type in your tag. If you're using several keywords they're best separated by semi-colons. Then click the Save button.
This method can also be used to tag a batch of photos all at once - just select all of the relevant photos with control-click and add the keywords in the same way as for one image.
