Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has advised the Punjab Government not to overdo the visibility aspect of security arrangements being made for the Zimbabwean cricket team. The Security, said the Interior Minister, should be effective and comprehensive but less visible so that we may not create an impression of a city under security-siege, emphasised the Interior Minister. The Zimbabwean cricket team is scheduled to arrive Pakistan on May 19 and would play two Twenty20 internationals on May 22 and 24 and three one-day internationals on May 26, 29 and 31
The Interior Minister said that one of the objectives of Zimbabwean cricket team visit to Pakistan is to show the world that things are generally normal in Pakistan and this impression can be better conveyed through minimum visibility of security forces on the roads of Lahore. Interior Minister also assured full support of the Federal Government to Punjab Government for better security during the Zimbabwe cricket team visit to Pakistan. This support includes deployment of Rangers and provision of helicopters for aerial surveillance. This was conveyed during Interior Minister's meeting with Chief Minister Punjab yesterday.-PR
