An Arabic language certificate course for learners has been launched under the auspices of Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Languages (FSSA&L) at the Department of Arabic, Islamia College University Peshawar (ICUP). The Dean FSSA&L, ICUP, Professor Dr Naushad Khan yesterday (Monday) formally inaugurated the Arabic Language Course at the Henri Donnat Room in Takbeer Block of the ICUP. Professor Dr Irshad Khan, Acting Chairperson, Department of Arabic, teachers, instructors and participants of course participated in the inaugural ceremony.
Professor Dr Naushad highlighted the importance of Arabic language learning at spoken level in terms of Pakistan's religious, cultural, economic and strategic ties with the Arabic speaking countries in the Gulf and Middle East. Emphasising on the importance of Arabic from religious point of view he said that Allah (SWT) revealed Holy Quran upon the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Arabic language. He said that from this angle, the Arabic language learning becomes a religious requirement for each Muslim. He also talked about the rich scientific and spiritual material in Arabic and the need for its translation in other languages. He said that the ICUP intends to establish a full-fledged Arabic translation center in the Department of Arabic in future.
Earlier, in his address, Dr Irshad Khan, Chairperson, Department of Arabic, ICUP, informed the audience about the history of Arabic language and its acceptance in and around the Arabian Peninsula some 4500 years before today. He said that Arabic Department was doing its best to introduce best available courses for Arabic language and literature in the department. The response of participants to the Arabic language learning course was highly encouraging and a good number of Islamia College students had got admission besides other people, he added.
