The Karachi Port handled 94,551 tonnes of cargo comprising 75,922 tonnes of import cargo and 18,629 tonnes of export cargo including 3,838 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 75,922 tonnes comprised of 27,021 tonnes of containerised cargo; 470 tonnes of general cargo; 1,931 tonnes of bulk cargo: 120 tonnes of soyabean meal; 1,811 tonnes of DAP and 46,500 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 18,629 tonnes comprised of 18,279 tonnes of containerised cargo and 350 tonnes of general cargo. As many as 3,838 containers comprising of 1,951 containers import and 1,887 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday. The break-up of imported containers shows 724 of 20's and 536 of 40's loaded while 7 of 20's and 74 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 616 of 20's and 169 of 40's loaded containers while 435 of 20's and 249 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were seven ships namely Pona, Mare Caribicum, Kota Kaya, Petalouda, Torm Trinity, Carnation Ace and Liberty Pride carrying containers, oil tankers and vehicles respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were six vessels viz. Kota Kaya, Sima Prestige, OOCL America, BW Zambesi, MT Karachi and Carnation Ace carrying containers, oil tankers and vehicles respectively currently at the berths.
There were two ships namely Hyundai Confidence and Sima Prestige carrying containers sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while two ships namely BW Zambesi and MT Karachi carrying oil tankers are expected to sail on Thursday. There were two vessels viz. Ever Radiant and Heilan Song carrying containers and general cargo respectively due to arrive on Wednesday, while four vessels viz. Northern Guild, PAS Aries, DL Aster and Dato Success carrying containers, chemical and steel respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.
