Gilgit-Baltistan Governor and Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Chaudhry Barjees Tahir has announced that elections in Gilgit-Baltistan will be held on June 08 in a transparent way. After a speech in a function at the Government College for Women, in Gulberg, Lahore, he told reporters that the premier had discretionary powers in the matter connected with the appointment of the governor of Gilgit-Baltistan and he would continue to stay in the office till his consent.
In response to a question on Imran Khan, he claimed that the PTI chief is wasting the time of nation and after a statement by the Nadra chairman, it was clear that there was nothing in allegations of rigging in 2013 polls. In his speech earlier in the function the governor said that after the 18th Constitutional Amendment, education was devolved to the provinces and hopefully federating units were paying special attention on promotion of education. He said the literacy rate in the country has significantly risen during tenure of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government.
