Consensus on corridor

01 Jun, 2015

It is indeed a matter of great satisfaction that the government has been able to ease political parties' concerns on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. That this mega economic project requires a consensual approach is a fact that manifested itself in the convening of an All-Party Conference (APC) on Thursday. The government, particularly the minister of Planning, Dr Ahsan Iqbal, deserves praise for addressing the genuine concerns of opposition parties that have earlier accused the government of demonstrating a Punjab-centric approach in relation to the economic corridor.
Truly described as a game changer, the corridor is aimed at building roads, rail networks, airports and sea ports, along with economic zones and power houses across the country. That the political leadership has shown maturity over a matter of high import is a highly significant development that will definitely augur well for the country's economic prospects.
