03 Jun, 2015

At least four people, stated to be Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers, were killed when gunmen opened indiscriminate fire on them near Fawara Chowk, Abbottabad. Police said the victims were activists of PTI and the initial investigations suggested that the incident was a result of electoral dispute. The victims were identified as Dostan, Nazir, Kala, and Zakir-ur-Rehman, while Naveed was injured in the incident.
Chaudhry Sajid, a PML-N member, has been nominated in the FIR registered at Cantt Police Station. The heirs of the victims staged a protest at Fawara Chowk and blocked the artery for several hours. A large number of policemen have been deployed in the area, where the situation was tense following clashes between rival political forces. National Assembly Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi, who was to visit the area, was sent back after the situation turned sensitive following the shootings.
