Apple on Wednesday recalled speakers in its Beats product line, saying the battery in the speaker could overheat and cause a fire hazard. Apple offered people who own Beats Pill XL speakers a full refund of 325 dollars or an Apple store credit. No other Beats or Apple product is affected by the recall. The Beats Pill XL was introduced by rapper Dre in November 2013. It allows users to play music from smart phones and other devices wirelessly over Bluetooth technology.
Apple acquired Beats in 2014 for about 3 billion dollars. Its main interest with the purchase was Beats' music streaming service, which is expected to be offered soon outside the United States.
