Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister Mineral Development and Focal Person of Mega Projects Ziaullah Afridi has revealed that his government has decided to formally inaugurate work on the construction of new 2 flyover at Phase-III squire of Hayatabad-Jamrud Road that is named as Bab-e-Peshawar (Gateway of Peshawar). He said that Chief Minister Pervez Khattak will lay the foundation stone of this important scheme on Wednesday, June 17 near venue of the project.
He was chairing a meeting about arrangements for groundbreaking ceremony of the project at Local Govt Secretariat Peshawar. The meeting also reviewed progress on the ongoing development schemes and planning of more mega projects for Peshawar wherein a number of decisions were also made.
It was attended by Secretary Local Government, Elections & Rural Development Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Jamil Ahmad and concerned authorities of NLC, PDA, security and other related agencies who put forth suggestions for making the event successful and graceful in all respects and arrangements were finalised as such.
The minister was told on this occasion that local government department has awarded the contract of this mega project to National Logistic Cell (NLC) for improved quality and transparency.
He was told that an agreement to this effect has also been signed between Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) and NLC wherein the latter will construct this high rise 2-level flyover complex in record period of 120 days.
Ziaullah Afridi said importance of such crucial communication links increased manifold in wake of recent developments for regional peace, stability and economic relations with China, Afghanistan and Central Asian states.
He expressed the confidence that Bab-e-Peshawar would prove milestone achievement in launching series of unique mega projects in the provincial metropolis.
He said that this modern flyover at the confluence of FATA, Hayatabad, Karkhano Market, Industrial Estate and Regi Lalma Township would greatly contribute in removing the traffic hazards and jam problems on this busy highway and would also help in accelerating industrial, commerce and economic activities in the region to revive the past glory of Peshawar as trade centre of Central Asia.
Similarly, he said this flyover complex would emerge as the training and testing center for the experts and students of engineering in respect of ensuring smooth passage of traffic in Peshawar and saving precious time of the commuters.
The minister termed it good omen that KP government was undergoing the phase of devolution of powers and resources to local governments and local representatives for development at gross roots level on one hand while work on the planning and development of mega projects was also being expedited on the other.
He said that provincial government has signed MoU with NLC for quick, transparent and quality completion of Bab-e-Peshawar and hoped that its quality construction in the record period of 120 days would be ensured.
He further expressed the hope that the agreement between KP government and NLC would prove the starting point of prolong partnership of construction of more mega projects in the province wherein a member of more important projects would be handed over to it in various cities of the province and hence would be accomplished in the stipulated time.
