The Karachi Port handled 114,784 tonnes of cargo comprising 77,342 tonnes of import cargo and 37,442 tonnes of export cargo including 5,838 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 77,342 tonnes comprised of 50,316 tonnes of containerised cargo; 5,737 tonnes of general cargo; 4,905 tonnes of soyabean meal and 16,384 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 37,442 tonnes comprised of 14,357 tonnes of containerised cargo; 335 tonnes of general cargo; 11,550 tonnes of bulk cargo: 9,572 tonnes of cement; 1,978 tonnes of rice and 11,200 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 5,838 containers comprising of 3,674 containers import and 2,164 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 1,058 of 20's and 1,291 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 17 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 180 of 20's and 427 of 40's loaded containers while 312 of 20's and 409 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were seven ships namely PAC Aries, Commodore, Chem Peace, Bunga Laurel, Nave Andromeda, Hanover Trader and Kong Que Song carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were five vessels viz. Wan Hai-602, GT Star, Hanover Trader, Chief Ahmad and Soho Trader carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths. There were two ships namely YM Enlightenment and Chief Ahmad carrying containers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Friday, while another ship namely Wan Hai-602 carrying containers is expected to sail on Saturday.
There were three vessels viz. Ponente, Sudair and Beijing Bridge carrying containers respectively due to arrive on Friday, while six vessels viz. SSL Mumbai, RHL Aqua, Duck Hunter, Commodore, Shalamar and Nasco Gem carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.
