Since our fellow planets Mars and Saturn have been relatively close to Earth lately, astronomers took advantage of observing them more clearly and released new amazing pictures of the two planets.

NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope benefited from Mars and Saturn being close to Earth, fully lit this summer and captured both the planets, giving a more clearer look of them.

The spacecraft captured high-resolution images of the planets. The picture of Saturn clearly shows its incredible rings and the gaps between those rings. The image even showed the hexagonal storm around Saturn’s north pole. Moreover, the image even featured six of Saturn’s 62 known moons.

On the other hand, the Red Planet has been closet to Earth this year after 15 years since its last closest approach in 2003. Though Hubble capturing Mars being this close is not something new, what marks it different this time is because of the global dust storm engulfing the entire planet. Despite the storm, Hubble managed to capture its key features including the polar ice caps. Also, the picture also features Mars’ two small moons, as described by Universe Today.

These news images of the two planets can be compared with older data gathered by Hubble, other telescopes and space probes, helping astronomers to learn how cloud patterns and large-scale structures on other planets in our Solar System change over time, reported Science Daily.
