Pakistan Railways is to purchase thirty-four modern locomotives from the US General Electric Company. An MOU to this effect was signed between the two sides in Lahore on Saturday. Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique also attended the MoU signing ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the government is taking all possible measures for making the Pakistan Railways a dynamic and profit oriented organisation to provide latest, safe and swift transportation facilities to the people. He said first shipment of 20 locomotives will reach Pakistan within sixteen months after this MoU. He said the Pakistan Railways have decided to ply special Eid trains this year and a special unprecedented Eid Package will be offered to the passengers. The Minister said that fares of the trains will not be increased and section-to-section fares in Green Line have been issued which is applicable from Saturday.
