Pakistan Poultry Association (Northern Zone) Chairman Dr Mustafa Kamal welcoming the decision of the federal government to withdraw proposal of levying of 5 per cent sales tax on poultry industry has urged the government to withdraw also the proposal of 10 per cent sales tax and 10 per cent import duty on soybean meal.
In a statement issued here Monday, Dr Kamal said that poultry was the most organized sector of the agriculture. It was providing 40 per cent of the total meat requirement of the country and some 1.8 million people are attached with it for their livelihood. He said that the government was receiving revenue from this industry in line with its volume and investment in it. He said that the PPA was providing chicken rates at Rs 15 per cent less than the market rates in 331 Ramazan bazaars while a concession of Rs 5 per dozen on eggs is also being provided to facilitate the masses.
